dulcinella's chaos

Presents, promises , places to travel and the que(e)st(e)

This is another blogpost without pictures, but it will be the last. So lots of pictures are coming pretty soon:-) Internet problems will be solved totally to never come back again (I wish:-)). Anyway, tomorrow I am leaving for a holiday in Italy, driving through France. Several hotels have good internet and I hope to have time and energy to put pictures on my blog of gifts I received (thank you Noni, thank you Nia, thank you Julie!!!) and of my trip. As to the que(e)st(e)... I'll be back home middle of august so I plan on telling who the winner is around the end of august. There were three reasons for the name 'dulcinella'. One is to be found in Spain where a knight with strange enemies lived. The second is situated in belgium/france where a great artist felt also a special connection with this knight. The third reason: find the meaning of the name dulcinella. For this one I will also take into consideration the answers regarding the origin of the name/word. The first two answers have to be right, the last one is more open. I got quite a lot answers already, but the person with the best answers (preferably more than one) wins. But as promised I will draw a second winner, among those wo sent me an email. I do hope you enjoyed thinking about the answers. I enjoyed searching for clues. Wishing you all a very happy stitching! I'll be back soon. No dutch version this time:-( I'm sorry, but I am starting to fall asleep and still have to pack some things.

Just helping a bit

Not with pictures. Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm feeling a bit better. However, yesterday they came to install digital television. The result of this is that I don't have digital television, but no internet and phone either:-( I can use my sisters network, but we don't get the signal everywhere in this house so I can do reading and answering mail, but not posting pictures and such. As for the que(e)st(e): in my last blogpost a lot of clues were given. Everything in the last part could be used for one of the clues! I enjoy reading all your answers and lots of you are on the right track, but mostly only for one of them. Blijven denken:-)

Stitching and next part of the que(e)ste

Last week I got a kit in the mail from Yiotas cross stitch kits . A few weeks back I talked with her (as in mailtalk, not real life talk). I  liked her kits very much and read she was looking for people to review her kits. She told me to choose whichever kit I wanted. Choose, right:-) That is not something I'm good at. I offered to choose a kit on which she would like a review and sent several possibilities, but as she didn't want to influence my review, I had to choose myself.
As you can see I have chosen a Van Gogh painting, the Church of Auvers, a bit less known than some of his other paintings, but one I particularly love. All those colors blue: so beautiful!! I'm really curious to see how this painting will look when stitched. For those of you who ever pass in the North of France, the church is in Auvers, a bit north of Paris. It is a lovely village with a great museum on impressionist art.

So far everything looks very promising: the kit is very well put together, the floss is being wound on the bobbins (great idea, saves a lot of time for chaotic people like me) and as far as I can see without actual stitching, the colors are very well chosen.
I could also choose if I wanted Aida or evenweave, so I choose evenweave. I would have loved to stitch it on 32 count, which was not available, but 28 count is also a good choice. The floss is Madeira and I'm looking forward to work with it as it is the first time.

I haven't started yet, as I've been stitching on secret packages (cross stitch and other stuff) and birthdaycards, but I hope to get started soon. So updates will sure follow.

As I am still not well (good thing I can sit up a bit now and stitch while lying on the sofa:-), I am so behind on blog reading. I promise to catch up soon.
Stitching updates will probably follow this weekend.

As for the que(e)ste: maybe this song will help some of you: Jacques Brel .
For those of you who don't speak french ( most of you, I guess), it has also been recorded in English, for instance Elvis or Sinatra.
The end of this schoolyear is almost there. Sometimes I am quite nostalgic about the days when I teached Latin and helped children to memorize and understand Latin words and names. Very soon we're leaving for the holiday to Italy, altough it doesn't feel like going abroad.Much more than Belgian, I feel European. Also I look particularly forward to all the dolci in Italy.

Enjoy the thinking!
Claire

IHSW and the ongoing que(e)ste!

Nothing much to show really for IHSW. First is a progress on the SAL 'My stitching tools' which I do in french.

As I didn't feel to stitch much else this weekend except on my secret package and I card I made (can't show either of it), I decided to stitch further on a Halloween piece. Weather has been awful, which made me feel more like autumn:-).

sorry, no ironing done. it's a Lizzie Kate piece and it is a joy to stitch.
And for the queeste. The fact I named it a que(e)st(e), should give you a clue. Besides,do you like to hear songs? Listen to this one:-)
And look at this lovely cross stitch design after a sketch of Picasso.

That's all for today, hope you start to see  light in the darkness. Remember: answers only to jacquelinebrelle@gmail.com. If you already know one answer, you can send it already. There are three reasons why I choose Dulcinella. I will give a prize to the person with the best answer(s) overal and I will also draw a name for a prize among the other names.

Stash, stitching and the start of the que(e)st(e)

First of all: don't forget to take a look at Millys blog; she is such a sweet lady and has a wonderful giveaway. As promised you will get here a first update of stitching things, buying stuff and a riddle. have lots of other pictures to share, but will do it in pieces.
picture of Lulu La Belle

The SAL I'm doing with Ines. I haven't gotten far, although i worked several evenings on it. But it is on such a high count, so it goes slowly. I plan to stitch the white and dividing colors first, so I can take it on vacation. It will be easy to stitch on it in the car, if I don't have to take the pattern all the time. The picture isn't good: for once this year there was too much sun:-)

I have been stitching also a lot on my summer exchange on Margaret Sherrys lovers blog. I can't,show it for the weeks,to come, but will post a picture of it when it arrives. I haven't finished it , but hope to do so next week.

New stash arrived this week:  threads and fabric I ordered at Nina. All these colors are so gorgeous.
I ordered these floss colors for another SAL, claire de la lune, at luna's blog. It's one I really look forward to stitch. As a matter of fact I start tomorrow with the moon! I am behind, cause of the past two weeks, and I don't want to miss this one. I'm stitching it on 32 count Twilight blue linen.

These colors I ordered for Halloween and autumn.

Couldn't resist to order some fabric too! I really think Nina's fabric is wonderful to work with and the color vintage powder lilac is stunning.

Now if you made it this far: I promised to tell you why I choose the name dulcinella, but only if you tried to find out first. I've choosen the name for three reasons:  you're welcome to tell me your guesses. But please don't spoil it for others, so send yournanswers to my personal email at jacquelinebrelle@gmail.com. I will give a prize to the person who has the best answers, but I keep the prize secret just for now. But I promise : it will be worthwhile!
You'll find tips in my blogposts every time I post one the next two or three weeks. Competition is open to all readers.
Nomen est omen, they say in Latin. Is that true for all my aliasses and e-mailadresses?

Coming back:-)

I've been rather quiet the past two weeks, not blogging and not even blog hopping.
Truth is: I wasn't feeling too well, which is something that, unfortunately, happens regularly. However, I don't complain. I've been completely bedridden for over 10 years and it is only the past two or three years that I got part of my life back. I don't like the weeks or days or months that I am just too ill to do more than lying and try to read a bit or answer some mails, but  it's a small prize to pay if I am feeling rather well on all those other wonderful day:-)
But I had my birthday last week  and I was spoiled rotten by my children en hubby:-) Also I got some new stash - hands weren't glued-, did some stitching and had some things organized. Anyway, this weekend I am going to stitch, stitch, stitch and I,ll post lots of pictures of new stash and progress on the stitching. have a lovely weekend all!
picture of beach huts- a week ago

New stash and another SAL

It is quite unbelievable. Someone should come and glue my hands behind my back. Reading all those blogs made me do it once again. Ok, I admit, I'm guilty. I bought new stash. The first package came in the mail this morning.

Yes, I gave in. I ordered the Pompeian Garden. I had been looking at it for over a month, and still wanted it so much. I thought I'd order the chart and then start gathering the materials, as buying it all at once would be way too expensive!

I also ordered different kind of needle packages. The platinum ones are my favorites. However, I wanted to try the smaller needles to see if they are better to stitch with.
And I bought a lovely piece of linen, lavender, as that's one of my favorite colors.

As it's been so warm (lovely weather, too bad it didn't  last), I spent a lot of my time on my terrace. I didn't feel like working on a project  that used lots of materials. There was a lot of wind blowing around and running around to gather needlework supplies was not really something I was going to spend my spare energy on. So I decided to take another Sal that I'm doing at here.  This is what I did the past week.

stitched on 36 ct hand dyed stone linen (Nina) with needle necessities.

Other than this I only stitched a little bit here and there, so more pictures will be shown as soon as I have something to show.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Links to giveaways and an intriguing question

A longer post will follow tomorrow or the day after. Just wanted to tell you about two giveaways. First there is a great giveaway at  Jo. Jo has a wonderful blog and she is giving away a chart of Yiota's who has great kits and charts.

Another giveaway is to be found at fullnovembermoon. You better be quick as both giveaways end this week at the end of the month.
Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend!

ps: I have been asked what the name Dulcinella stood for. The next weeks I will give each weekend a tip as to how to find out where I got the name and why I choose it. The person who is most close to the right answer by the end of june, will win something!

TUSAL and IHSW update

First: here is a quick update of my TUSAL. I definitively have more floss than last month, but I had the green visitor in my house:-)

And then there was IHSW. There is progress on some projects. On other projects the green visitor caused the opposite of progress:-(  Pictures will come in a next post.
I had planned to stitch a lot during the long weekend from wednesday afternoon till sunday evening.Little did I know I was in for a surprise.
Thursday I had been cleaning my stash, getting things organized for a very long stitching session. Friday, when I was  really ready for stitching all day, suddenly life began to act up. Lots of phone calls, messages, people needing me, things going wrong. But still, I had a whole weekend, right:-).
There was also a package delivered to the door for my hubby who was away during the day. I put it away, not really thinking about it, not even looking closely to the box.
When my dear hubby came home that evening, he told me the box was for me, kind of a late mothers days gift, early birthday gift (which is actually next month) and a gift for our wedding anniversary (yesterday). The gift came from this company:

Oh my goodness, this was the most wonderful present I could have dreamed of!!! I got this precious iPad which will make it so much easier for me to read blogs and mails. To make the gift even more precious it had an inscription on the backside about me being a wonderful mom who always is there. I was so moved.

Now, what did I do this weekend? Not stitching, playing with the iPad:-) And I even don't feel sorry I have stitched so little.

But I did get some stitching done. Here's an update on the Alpine garden from Drawn Thread. I love working on it too much, so after I have finished the centre piece, it will be with pain in the heart I'll put it away for awhile.

The frog visitor was also one that stayed for a longer period. In my latest post I told you I didn't like the stitching on my Beach Huts. I frogged big part of the sky, which was a huge task and I will simply stitch it again. I still have no clue why that particular area was so badly stitched,so let's hope this time it will be better.

I do owe some people answers to their questions. I hope I didn't delete too much things with all the trial and error on the iPad this weekend, but if you're waiting for a reply from me and it is not getting there, please, please, give a very big yell.

Happy stitching to all of you! The next days I'll try to divide my attention between stitching and computer:-)

hugs
claire

liefs,

claire

Waiting for the long weekend-pictures

Judging by the  temp and the all the rain that comes from above, one would think it's very early spring or end of the winter.. Newspapers tell us that spring won't come the next two weeks. Who knows, maybe that two warmer days back in march, were all the summer we are going to get this year:-(
But, lot of cross stitch time ahead, with a long weekend,  a IHSW long weekend. So before starting to cross stitch for a lot of hours, here's some update pictures.
Some of you noted that I love doing SAL's. That's right, I think the clear goals in a SAL help me to focus without putting to much presuure. You will continue to see new ones:-)  I'm going to do on with a design with lots of blackwork in it on the blog of Agnieszka . I like the two designs she proposed, but the monochrome woman was really shouting at me.
Happy stitching weekend to all of you wonderful ladies out there!
This is how far I got with the Papillon SAL. It would be more if I did hate the metallics on the 32 count. I love their effect, but they"re a pain in the ass to work with. I use Kreinik 4 and really don't know if there are metallics who are easier to use or to get into your needle.

This is another SAL I'm stitching with some wonderful ladies at the Margaret Sherry lovers blog . I started later than the rest so I'll have to work hard on the four cats (this is spring cat, couldn't you telle?), but they"re a joy to stitch and as they're not too big, I would have a finish now and then:-)

This is an update of the Drawn Thread sampler 'Alpine Garden'. I did not do too much, but just started on it again yesterday as it was yelling so hard:-) I love working on this sampler, so I don't rush trough it, but take my time to enjoy stitching with these lovely colors and silks

This is the Waiting for summer SAL, and a may memories  design. You can see the top of the roof appearing. I have noticed on this one, my cross stitching doesn't look so neat. I wonder why, but I have noticed lately that working with two threads often gets too bulky .But I honestly think one thread wouldn't give the right coverage for this one, so I'll have to be extra careful.

This is the Lula la belle SAL . It looks like I didn't make any progress, but putting the white stiches on part of her shirt, while watching television was a long process:-) But it spares me lots of time as I don't need to count the next hours.

Happy mother's day

I hope all moms had a wonderful mother's day and/or spoiled their moms rotten! I had a wonderful day yesterday with finally some good weather (which is very relative of course, but not getting rain nowadays is considered good weather:-). I went with hubby and son to watch the dancing performance of the two nieces and after that hubby took us out for late lunch/early diner at the riverside.
My sweet children bought me a piece of the soap I love so much, aleppo soap. Since I got a bit older, I wouldn't want to use any other soap.
We have twice a year mother's day (and father's day) and the next one in august is kind of the real one for us.
Pictures with updates on the stitching progress will appear one of these days. I want to put them on my blog  before tuesday. I am looking  forward to stitch a lot in IHSW . So lot of things to do the next two days and then I will go live in total isolation. Well, I guess I can hope:-)

Hoop doet leven, nietwaar:-)

Weekly update

Although I didn't do what I wanted, I can show some pieces.
First I worked on the Papillon SAL. I haven't stitched the specialty stitches yet, as I wanted to do them at a moment when my house was a bit quiet and I wasn't too tired. Both conditions seem not to have occurred together for some time now. Jo has at her blog a list of people that stitch this SAL. Would be nice if everyone subscribed:-)

I also worked on the Dawn of Spring Sampler. I got about halfway the spider stitches, so apart from half a row of spider stitches and my initials this part is done. The tenth of this month part three will be there, so I think I'll just carry on stitching  this. I love it, but the spider stitches weren't too easy.

I already showed the third project. It is the SAL ABC romantique (romantic ABC). I am halfway on this sampler, but received today the fourth (and last) part. A little speeding up might be necessary.

The last project are the Beach Huts by Maria Diaz. I'm doing this for a SAL  'en attendant les vacances' (waiting for summer) and for the theme-licious may memories month! I only stitched on it for two evenings, so I am glad I made some progress.

The last picture is something completely different. I doubted if I would show it, but then again, why wouldn't I? Sometimes you will notice me telling that I have been tired or haven't been able to do much. Sometimes I am a little behind when I want to send something.  You can see the reason for this in the last picture. Please don't pity me!!! Things are what they are, and I am a very happy, optimistic person, surrounded by wonderful and very dear friends, a fantastic hubby, very dear children and lots of very sweet family members. It's just that in my life there sometimes are practical problems (have to wait till hubby or my sis drives with me to the post office) and challenging health issues. I can walk , but only short walks and on the good days.

Lot of hugs to all of you,

The two first heart of Papillon SAL, without the specialty stitchest

This is me about a year ago in the Pantheon in Rome

Memories in May

Memories is the theme of this month  theme-licious-2012. It made me wonder about my early cross stitch days. At the age of six I learned to stitch at school and since I was a teenager, I have been stitching on and on. Sometimes I stitched very little for a few years, some years I stitched a lot. Sometimes life got in the way, sometimes I just took a detour to another hobby, another craft. But the stitching bug always came back. Reading the theme of this month I decided to clean out stash (well, that was the plan:-)) I did some cleaning, but then I met  old, not finished projects and all those lovely magazines.

I choose the first project  to do for a SAL 'waiting for the holidays' (in french 'en attendant les vacances'). You can see the choices of the other stitchers at the blog of Orely
It's a design of Mary Diaz from an issue of Cross Stitch Crazy and I always wanted to do it. It reminds me of summer as a kid, on the beach. In those days summer never ended and it sure didn't rain all the time:-)

My second project is a very big one. I have been cross stitching on it a little bit, and had it in my closet for so long. It's a kit from Heritage showing the map of Italy. it is not likely something I will finish this year, but I would love to make some progress on it. I bought it cause it brings memories of university (I was schooled as  a teacherin Latin and Greek:-)), and some of the wonderful days I've spent in Italy. As we're going this year to Italy, I hope to get some stitching done before I leave.

Of course I will be working on lots of other projects. A new post with an update and pictures on what I have been stitching will be here in one or two days!
Happy stitching to all of you!

Mijn tweede project is erg omvangrijk.

Papillon SAL and update Lulu la belle

First things first. Here's my update on Lulu la Belle which I'm working on in a SAL. You can find everything about it at Inès
It's so nice to work on, but I had to frog everything out last week as I worked with two threads and the fabric is too small. I started again with one thread and it's much more beautiful this way.

This week I got my threads from Nina I had ordered a few more so I could choose when I got them. I did make a choice based on the pictures Nina sent of the colors, but wasn't sure about one or two colors. So now I'm all ready to start working on all these specialty stitches, which I'm going to do this evening and tomorrow. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! Hugs
Claire

Knuffel
Claire
This is Lulu la Belle. It's sometimes challenging to work on this fine fabric, but she will be so lovely. We agreed to work only on wednesdays on her and she has to be ready in september..
These are the hand dyed threads I choose. I loved all the colors but wanted to make a further selection.
This is a gift Nina added and I know exactly what to do with the little bobbin. Thank you ever so much Nina, I was really happy with these threads and the bobbin!
These are the colors and the fabric I finally choose for my Papillon Sal. However, if it doesn't work out the way I want to, I still have alternatives.

IHSW update, way too late:-)

I'm terribly late, but here are my pictures on the little progress I made. I only worked on two pieces and kitted up some other things. Hope I can do this weekend a IHSW on my own:-) For those of you who don't know what a IHSW is, take a look http://joysze.blogspot.com/p/international-hermit-and-stitch-weekend.html

This is the second piece of the Dawn of Spring sampler designed by Mouse http://talesofastitchingmouse.blogspot.com/ I love working on it, so I don't mind I didn't get the second part totally done. Have to do in the next row Spider stitchers and am very curious how that will turn out:-).
This is a SAL ABC Romantique I'm following on a french site http://vavi.over-blog.com/article-on-inaugure-l-album-103999936.html I almost finished part 1, but part two had been sent beginning of this week. It's a lovely project to work on, so I'm going to finish my first two parts hopefully very soon.
